SHRED IT OFF! 2: Dealing with Mental blocks and limiting beliefs.

Please read part one for better understanding and flow here :https://link.medium.com/TyWPIRvgK7

What usually comes to people mind whenever they hear of weight loss is usually: gym, dieting, muscles. All these are good and necessary but they are not the basics, they are more like ad-ons.

Weight loss has psychological components also, just like its dietary and physical aspects, the mental aspects are essential too. This part will be focused on clearing mental blocks and models that have been preventing you to make that lifestyle switch.

According to Napoleon Hill: “The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE”.

There must be that desire that should fuel the process. When I started off initially, my lack of desire affected my commitment, focus and consistency. Your desire should be fueled by your goal . I suggest writing them down on a paper, and it should be written down in clear and objective terms. Not ambiguous terms like: I want hourglass shape, beach body, summer body etc. Saying: I want to lose a particular amount of kg within a realistic timeframe, through certain process, sounds more objective and workable. Also Know this : PURSUIT IS THE PROOF OF DESIRE!( Dr Mike Murdoch).

Mental Blocks: Mental blocks are train of thoughts, beliefs and experiences that have been ingrained in our subconscious mind, they guide our beliefs, decisions etc. mental blocks feature the same conundrum: an inability to concentrate, think or reason clearly, resulting in a lack of drive.

In respect to weightloss or lifestyle change, mental blocks can be seen as limiting patterns and thought processes that prevents us from taking decisions that is essential for our overall development because we are comfortable with the status quo.
Beliefs like: "my parents are obese,so I can’t lose weight or switch lifestyle", "I am too busy to lose weight", "I don’t have the resources", "weightloss is for the elite or rich". These thoughts processes are erroneous and limiting. From my experience, you only need: the desire, the right information, discipline, commitment, intentionality and patience. The process I will be introducing you to, in the subsequent parts of this series is objective, realistic and affordable to anyone.

Try these :
1. Exert control over your thoughts, question any limiting thought that comes to your mind, counter it with a superior thought. I.e, my parents are obese: counter it with: my parents are obese because they weren’t conscious of their weight or intentional about it, but I am different and I will take a action.

2. Measure you progress and celebrate little wins.

3. Command orderliness , try to keep you environment calm, clean and simple.

4. Be weary of the people and atmosphere you expose yourself to, do this by staying away from negative energy.

5. Reprogram your mind by nurturing only positive thoughts, be objective and realistic, practice daily affirmation, develop a routine.
Put every suggestions and recommendations into practice, this will keep you in the right frame of mind to commence the process. Don’t give in to the status quo.

I leave you with this quote by Carl Sandburg: “There is an eagle in me that wants to soar, and there is a hippopotamus in me that wants to wallow in the mud.”

Whatever decision you are making, make sure it’s the eagle in you that is guiding it. Wishing you peace, love and success.
